We
sometimes wonder why life is filled with a never-ending series of problems and
trials.
But
we know that we can face the upcoming hurdles of the week with God's strength.
The
Bible tells us the root cause of sufferings in this world - sin.
In
general, most people view sin as outward acts of perpetration against the law
or social moral standards such as murder, rape, robbery, gossip, adultery and
so on and so forth...
However,
those acts are just symptoms of sin...
Sin
is actually rebellion against God... In other words, rejecting God as ruler and
king of our lives and stubbornly living lives our own way.
Today’s
poem was inspired by a sermon series delivered by Sam Allberry in my church’s
annual camp in 2012.
In
Christ: Appreciation for the Cross
By
Joanne Liaw Sook Ling (7 th May 2012)
In
Adam we inherited the curse of sin
That
corrupts the world which we live in
One
act of rebellion brought such great pain
Nothing
could wash away sin’s dreadful stain
But not all was lost for God had a plan
Christ, God’s only Son, descended He from heav’n
Through the obedience of one righteous man
To death on the cross with nail-pierced hands
Christ took the punishment that we deserved
Instead
of death eternal life he reserved
For
a people he has chosen to preserve
Jesus,
our risen Saviour we will serve!
Now we remember Christ’s death on the Cross
Communion reminds us of the great cost
Of Christ precious blood spilled at Calvary
Amazing love, how can this be?!
Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man
(Adam), and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all
sinned... For if, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one
man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift
of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:12,17)
Although
Christ has saved us from our sin, that does not mean that we are immune to the
problems of this life for we are still living in a fallen world. But God gives
us comfort and strength to go through them.
